WHO IS CROSSING LATITUDES?

Tim and Lena Conlan founded Crossing Latitudes in 1996.

Meet their incredible Staff!

Lena is from Sweden. She has been active in outdoor water related activities since childhood. Every summer her family operated a sailing and canoeing camp along the Swedish west coast.
Lena has a teaching degree from the University of Umeå. Her love of travel and adventure drew her to the U.S. where she ended up teaching for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). After years of travel covering four different countries as director of their sea kayaking program, it seemed only natural to return to Scandinavia and start her own adventure business. She is the master planner behind the wide variety of activities and outdoor education opportunities you'll find with Crossing Latitudes. When she's not outdoors leading she's dividing her time between the office and some outdoor travel show. Check out her scheduled presentations, maybe she'll be in your neighborhood. Lena also works for WMI of NOLS. She teaches wilderness first aid courses in both Europe and in the USA.

Tim is from the U.S. He's lived near the Rocky Mountains most of his life. He met Lena in 1986 while teaching sea kayaking in Baja California, Mexico for NOLS. He had been working for NOLS as an outdoor educator since the late 70’s. During that time he'd taught just about every skill type they offered, from caving and climbing to kayaking and skiing. He developed the NOLS sea kayaking Instructor course and authored their instructor manual. He also helped to create materials and teaching practices for the Federally sponsored conservation program "Leave No Trace". He's now trying to live the dream by making his play his work and traveling the world to do it. For exercise he rides his snowboard and skis in the mountains around their home in Montana. He's part of a growing group who call themselves "Grays on Trays".

What makes Crossing Latitudes special?

Our friendly Scandinavian and American Staff have educational backgrounds and extensive expedition experience.

Our participants come from all over the world. Our groups are small in size; 10-12 people.

Our expeditions are done in true “expedition style”. We have no motorized support trailing us.

We provide both doubles and singles on all sea kayaking trips.

We adhere to the “Leave No Trace” principles and treasure the pristine wilderness we travel through.

We spend time with the locals in all areas where we operate.

Lodging ranges from camping out to the best available traditional hostels, “rorbus” (fishermen huts), mountain lodges and guest houses. Included in the trip cost is lodging the night we meet and the last night on the itinerary.

Healthy, tasty and filling camping meals are cooked on open fires or stoves. You can expect a mix of traditional foods and international cuisine.

All meals, whether eaten in a restaurant or while camping, are included in the price. All visits to museums, events mentioned in the itinerary, transportation and lodging during the trip are also included.

Crossing Latitudes is very flexible and will always try to meet your needs and make the very best of each day, rain or shine!

We use only the best outdoor equipment, this is an essential aspect of our quality adventures. We are proud to provide links to quality companies.
