Crossing Latitudes is devoted to promoting the responsible enjoyment of outdoor pursuits all over the world while instilling an appreciation of different cultures and lifestyles. Our trips are an outdoor and a cultural experience wrapped into one.
What We Offer
On our Camping Expeditions we travel by sea kayak or hike (sometimes using reindeer as pack animals) through remote regions. Some expeditions require previous experience though most do not.
During our Inn Trips we stay at Guesthouses, Hostels and Lodges. We offer sea kayaking, trekking and multi-adventure Inn Trips. Our Multi-adventures include day hiking, deep-sea rafting, bird watching, sea kayaking and visiting local museums and historic sites.
Our Educational Courses are open to anyone and require no previous experience. We focus on teaching the necessary skills to become a competent outdoor leader and guide. The wilderness first aid courses are taught by guides certified through the Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS.
For Private Trips we can incorporate elements of our regular trips or go completely outside the box to design the trip of your dreams. We've created private trips and events throughout Scandinavia, Greece and Honduras for friends, families, companies and special interest groups.
Trip Format and Style
The format and style of our trips are the result of many years teaching and guiding around the world. There is a high level of quality and personal touch to be found in a small organization of experienced staff who are committed to the success of each and every trip.
We want you to enjoy the mountains and the ocean environment in a safe and comfortable manner. Your active participation makes our trips more than just a guided tour. Participating in setting up camp, creating healthy and tasty meals, practicing sound conservation skills or simply being part of the group are what make a Crossing Latitudes trip enjoyable, rewarding and unique.
Meeting local people and experiencing their cultures are integral aspects of paddling and trekking with us. Our trips are full of opportunities to take in the sights and sounds of the country. Some of our expeditions are challenging and venture into remote wild areas. Other trips focus more on cultural aspects along a given coastline or mountain range.
Locations
Arctic Norway - Also known as the land of the midnight sun! Most of our Camping Expeditions and Inn Trips take place more than a hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle. We operate in the Nordland region, home to such places as the Salten Coast, the Lofoten Islands and Vesterålen Islands. Arctic Norway is not as cold as it sounds. The Gulf Stream brings warm water up along the coast creating a much more lush and temperate region than Alaska or Canada along the same latitudes.
Central Norway - This is where you'll find the famous Jotunheimen National Park. In Norwegian Jotunheimen means Home of the Giants. These mountains have some of the highest peaks in Europe north of the Alps.
West Coast of Sweden - Here the ancient Bohuslän (Bo-hoos-lan) Archipelago stretches from Goteborg to the border of Norway. The thousands of polished granite islands and skerries, virgin forests and traditional Swedish fishing villages make this a sea kayaker paradise.
Arctic Sweden - We operate in the Laponia Region also known as the Land of the Reindeer Herding Saami People. Using domestic reindeer to carry the bulk of our gear we trek with Saami guides through unspoiled Laponia, in the highlands of Arctic Sweden.
Greece - We paddle in the Dodecanese Islands and the Cycledes Islands in the Aegean Sea. The warm Mediterranean climate is ideal for practicing technical paddling skills, snorkeling and early morning walks. Imagine warm water, colorful villages, castles built by the crusaders and history around every corner.
Prince William Sound, Alaska - Starting in Whittier, we paddle into the heart of the Sound visiting tide water glaciers and prime whale habitat. We're excited to return for another summer of fishing for salmon, and experiencing the wonders of PWS!
Croatia -This trip combines a warm water paddling experience with a rich immersion into the fascinating culture of Croatia. During the trip we base out of a small family owned guesthouse on the Elafiti Islands. These islands remain unscathed from the Balkan Wars of the early 1990's and are free of commercial development.
