Trekking with the Saami and their Reindeer!

Come trek with us through Arctic Sweden as we learn about the traditional lifestyle of the Saami people! We'll lighten our backpacks by using domestic reindeer to carry the bulk of our camping gear. Our backpacks only contain personal gear weighing approximately 25-35 pounds.

We start our Reindeer Trek at the alpine Lake Akkajaure, a great glacial tarn, forming our gateway to the arctic highlands of Sweden. This trek is for anyone eager to explore the Sweden's mountains, do some fly fishing and learn about the Saami way of life. We will camp in tents and traditional Saami shelters.

What better way to experience the ancient Saami culture! You'll live close to the land and the reindeer in their natural habitat. Come and enjoy this dramatic arctic landscape with distant glaciers,abundant rivers, clear mountain lakes and fertile birch forests.

This trip is offered from August 18-25, 2008. You can join us just for the Reindeer Packing Expedition or you can take advantage of the combination option with six more days of sea kayaking just across the border along the Salten Coast of Norway from August 26-31, 2008.

These treks are truly unique. Each reindder has a different personality. Naggar is the one who likes to get hugged. Nasti Galljo is the king of the reindeer. Lojjan is the lazy one.
