Come learn sea kayaking with our exciting skills program!

Under careful supervision participants learn a wide variety of paddling skills in a comfortable and enjoyable environment. We have over 30 years of combined experience, teaching technical sea kayaking skills to paddlers of all levels. Our credentials include designing instructor training programs for nationally recognized organizations in North America, directing and coordinating sea kayaking programs in Alaska, Canada, Mexico and Chile, and writing the sea kayaking instructors manual for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).

This comprehensive course are offered to first-timers and people with previous paddling experience. We help people become confident paddlers, to respect the sea and master fundamental sea kayaking skills. We paddle in a variety of conditions, covering paddle strokes, seamanship and capsize recovery procedures. Theoretical classes such as equipment selection, hypothermia and ocean hazards are taught by our experienced staff.


The price includes all kayak & safety equipment, instruction, and written materials. Discounts are available if you bring your own kayak. For more details and information on lodging other than camping please call us! Accommodations range from camping out to hostels, cabins and private homes.

Basic Class Schedule
We reserve the right to alter the itinerary. The weather and sea conditions dictate our paddling-days and unforeseen conditions may arise.

Day 1
10:00 Welcome, introduction, schedule, snack
10:30 Introduction to the equipment and clothing. Issue of paddling gear.
11:00 Introduction to the kayaks; anatomy, care, design, fitting.
11:30 Basic orientation to paddling. The paddle and basic strokes, entering and exiting the kayak, demonstration of strokes and demonstration of wet-exit and rescue.
12:30 Lunch
13:30 Time to go paddling! Practice of basic strokes including forward, reverse, sweep, draw, stop and ruddering strokes.
Practice of wet-exiting and assisted rescues.
18:00 Return to the kayak center.

Day 2
09:00 Theoretical class: Cold water immersion, shock and hypothermia.
How to recognize and treat hypothermia.
10:30 Review of paddling strokes.
12:00 Picnic lunch
13:00 Low and High brace session. One-on-one session with instructor.
Practice of self rescues using the paddle float and more assisted rescues. Introduction to the Eskimo roll.
18:00 Return to the dock
